Retrigger clips

the new group settings are amazing! the solo flash allows for a great flow while busking, my suggestion to have an even better flow would be an option to have a cue start from the beginning upon pressing it agian, as supposed to turning it off and having to press a second time (im looking for the same behaviour as if you are in the cue editor and press the button “retrigger”)

So what if you did want the clip to turn off when you click it though, and other times you want retrigger? Should there be a modifier key you hold down for retrigger or turn off?

Until / if it gets implemented, how about making a small bank of a single clip?

Create, Save and close Clip 1 - standard retrigger.

Alt drag to make a copy. On clip 2, Turn off retrigger

Clone both again and put them in a flash group.

Now you have 4 variations - both retrigger on/off, and flash versions.

Side note - Retrigger On/off to me, is done in the “programming”stage of the process. You need to make that decision and commit if it’s a single clip so there is no indecision when you are in “playback” mode.

i agree there should be an option to toggle it on and off defenetely

yep thats what i am doing now! its not completely my desired effect but that is good enough, my previous laser software was LaserOS, and while its a great programm for beginners, it lacks the depth of liberation ofcourse, but the way the cues worked was that if you press the same cue that is already active, it would just play that cue from the beginning agian and not turn the cue off, and it was quite fun as it felt very responsive to hit a fast animation a lot of times in succesion when the music called for it

Have you set your flash time to 5 secs? If not, Bang away! Hold it if you need it longer. That’s all I’ve got on this topic.

Hey @gostey, interesting idea, and I totally get the appeal. That LaserOS-style behaviour does feel very immediate, especially for fast rhythmic hits, but LaserOS is different in that you don’t really ever stop a cue running, right?

So if clicking an already-active clip always retriggers it, you lose a clear way to turn it off again. That’s why my instinct is that this would need a modifier key: click = toggle on/off, modifier + click = retrigger. Otherwise you end up relying on things like “stop all clips”.

Just to clarify Gabriel’s point too: when he mentions flash time, he’s really talking about the clip’s out time (fade-out). A longer out time makes the clip appear to stay on, so you can retrigger it again while it’s still running.

We already use SHIFT for multi-clip selection and ALT for selecting without activating, so adding this would likely mean another modifier, which could get a bit complicated.

For now, Gabriel’s “multiple variations” approach is probably the cleanest workaround, but I do agree there’s something nice about that super-responsive retrigger feel. Definitely worth thinking about.

Thanks again for the clear explanation :+1:

hey @seb i think it would be great to just have a little checkmark on the cue that you can turn this behaviour on and off agian! buutt to be honest, i tried out @Eyes2theSkies suggestion of flash time set to 5 seconds and it works very well and i really like it, its very close to the laserOS behaviour (but for me it seems the max amount i can set it to is 4seconds? is there a reason there is a limit to this at all by the way? for example why cant i set it to 10 minutes fade out time to essentially never have it fade out, so i could retrigger it when i wanted, to start the animation from the beginning, but also let it linger for longer) anyways, thank you all!

Individual clip time is 4 seconds max. Right click one of the 5 groups and adjust the group default, which is 5 seconds max.
