Problems with installation on Mac

I have acquired a Mac, version 12.5.1 (Monterey) to try if it is better suited for me to use for Liberation. I usually use a Windows PC but have not used a Mac before. I have installed Liberation on the Mac following the instructions in the guide, but when I try to open the program a dialog box appears. It says no app is specified to open the document “Liberation 0.6.0B5” I have the option to press “cancel” or “Select App” Is there anything else that needs to be installed on a Mac to launch Liberation?

Hey Jann,

How strange!

To answer your question - no there isn’t anything else you need to install.

That error comes up when you try to open a document that is unrecognised so it shouldn’t happen on an app file!

Did you follow the instructions on the new manual? Install for Mac | Liberation User Manual

I would love to see you going through the process, so can we get on zoom or maybe can you get a video? I’ll message you directly.

Thanks!

Seb

An update on this - it seems that calling the app Liberation0.6.0B5 means that some Macs think that it is a .0B5 file (whatever that is!!!)

I’m updating the DMG filename without the dots, thanks so much @JannSi for the help figuring this edge case out.

Seb

Download still contains the .0B5 suffix. Renaming in Finder does not work.
Renaming in terminal works and app can be opened:

mv Liberation0.6.0B5 Liberation.app

The .app suffix is missing when copying over to applications folder.

Tested on MacBook Pro, M1 Max, macOS Sonoma 14.5

Link should be updated now, try again? Thanks!

Seb

Now it works, but still no timeline loop button for macOS

lol there’ll be a new version within the next few weeks. In the meantime you can sync to a looping MIDI clock :grinning:
