Critical Failure v1.0.0

We had been using Liberation 1.0.0 very successfully for 3 weeks ahead of our show, full rehearsals, everything. Sound check had no issues, but we noticed that the software would ‘hang up’ if we allowed the software to stay open on the laptop for hours at a time, especially when the MBP would go in and out of sleep cycle. The decision we made was that immediately after soundcheck we would fully close Liberation and open a new instance 15 minutes before our set time. (My wife @sarahmcnany runs lasers.) When she went to open Liberation–critical error. The application won’t initialize, nothing would work. We even redownloaded the software, thinking that maybe our application file became corrupted.

The was on August 30, so we were not on Tahoe OS26 – we were on whatever the current OS was at the time.

The software still won’t load–any ideas on what might be going on? Troubleshooting steps? I’ve successfully initialized 9.9.9, but I’d really like to export our project/clip/timeline files from 1.0.0!

Hey @with_shams!

Oh no! Sorry you ran into this - on site issues are always stressful. FWIW I’d always recommend sticking to a stable version for shows, and making sure project files are exported and backed up just in case.

In your case, I think one of the files in the working folder has become corrupted, they’re stored in : ~/Library/Application Support/Liberation/1.0.0/

Where “1.0.0” is the version you’re running - it’s a different folder for every Liberation version. If that folder becomes corrupted then reinstalling Liberation won’t fix it, since those files are kept between installs.

If you could zip up that folder and email it to me at info@liberationlaser.com, I’ll take a look - it’ll also help me make sure Liberation can recover more safely from this kind of corruption in the future.

As more general advice I’d recommend disabling sleep mode on show computers laptop. Most of the time I just leave Liberation running before a set, but restarting just before can also be a safer option if you’re working with a less stable build.

Thanks for letting me know, and I hope we can get you back up and running quickly!

Seb

Seb, I appreciate you taking a look! Will send those over now. Good advice on disabling sleep, that would have been a smart move–will add that to the checklist!

Attached! Seb, I appreciate you looking into this for us🙏 Hoping we can repair this and get those timelines and clips back😊
