Assigning lasers to different attributes inside a clip

Hey all,

I searched for this before posting so I’m sorry if it’s already been suggested.

I was wondering if there is, or could be, a way to assign different lasers to different attributes inside the clip editor?

I have an event which I am prepping for which includes the use of 3 lasers. Is it possible to have the ability to create a clip which has 2 different patterns and have one of the patterns assigned to lasers 1 and 3 and the second pattern assigned to laser 2?

So as a basic example, if I had a circle pattern and a horizontal line pattern inside a clip, instead of all 3 lasers outputting both the circle and the line, I could assign the horizontal line to lasers 1 and 3 and the circle to laser 2.

I know a workaround is to use the timeline mode with the 2 different clips at the same time marker and assigned to the different lasers but I think this would be very helpful if it was able to be assigned within the clip instead of having to switch between live mode and timeline mode.

Hi Roger, thanks for the suggestion!

What I’d really like to add in the future is a way to link clips so they always start together - that should make this kind of setup much easier.

For now, the best approach is to use groups: put your middle laser in one group and the outer two in another. That way you can control the middle and outer lasers independently.

There’s also a technique using the canvas system: make a clip with the horizontal line on the left and the circle on the right, and assign it to the canvas target area. Then split the canvas into two zones – one covering the left side and one the right side. Assign the first zone to the two outside lasers, and the second to the middle laser. This may be a smoother option!

Sounds like a really fun show setup - good luck with the event and let me know how it goes!
