1 cue per grid

I have been playing with Liberattion and i,m impressed with the capabillities smoothness and , workflow. Its very similar to DMX control where you can preselect an effect and then choose a group of fixtures. Is it possible to do a 1 cue per grid? As an example In edm just before the drop when your lasers move left right in group 1 then you can increase the tempo and when the beat kicks in you can select additional effect first in a second group and then choosing the cue in the second group the clip first group is automatically switched off. Its just a 1 cue per grid only. I hope it will be in the next build. Thanks guys keep up the good work!

Thanks Johan! Really glad to hear you’re enjoying Liberation - I love to hear it.

I think what you’re describing is where triggering one cue (or in Liberation terms, clip) automatically stops the others in that same group. That’s actually already how Liberation works - clips within the same group are exclusive, so starting one will stop the rest in that group automatically.

I also noticed you haven’t subscribed for a little while, so you might not have seen some of the latest updates - there have been loads of improvements over the past year. Definitely worth grabbing one of the new builds and giving it another go.

Thanks again for the kind words and feedback!

Hello Seb. I have kept an eye on the developments and improvements of Liberation . Each group is dedicated to certain zones and the assigned effect. If you select a new effect in the other group and after that you choose another clip in a new group not only there will be a new clip but it also has a new effect and new zones so you get more creativity and enhances the workflow. 1 cue per grid is all i ask. Hope it will be implemented in the new builld. I waited on having the proper midi platform to be implemented because then we finally can use a behringer with motorized faders (10x better then an apc40MKII) but i can live with that for now. Building your own clip is easy to understand and lost of fun. I hope my request can be granted. I,m a big fan of Liberation and hope to install some etherdream dacs in my upcoming 37W RGB,s.

Hi Johan,

I’m really glad to hear you’ll be installing Ether Dreams in your new 37 W lasers - that’s going to be great!

I apologise but I am having great difficulty parsing your request, and I think it’s a matter of terminology - perhaps because you’re using terms from other systems that don’t quite mean the same thing in Liberation? For example, you said :

“Each group is dedicated to certain zones and the assigned effect.”

That’s actually not the case in Liberation - groups aren’t tied to zones or effects; those are all handled independently.

To expand a bit on the terminology:

  • Clip: I think this is what you’re calling a cue - it’s the core element you trigger or play.

  • Group: A clip group is simply a set of clips that are mutually exclusive - starting one will automatically stop any others in the same group. Groups don’t have their own zones or effects (at least by default)

  • Effect: Effects are adjustments you can apply to any clip, and by default they’re global rather than group-specific (though that behaviour can be changed).

  • Zone: Zone assignment is on a per-clip basis. You can use the group tools to quickly set zones for multiple clips, but flips, positioning, and other output settings live on each clip itself.

  • Grid: I’m guessing when you say “grid” you might be referring to the Clip Deck - the grid-style view where clips are laid out and launched. If that’s the case, then each “grid” is more of a visual arrangement rather than a functional grouping, there’s no concept of pages, it’s more a view into a section of the Clip Deck.

If you could rephrase your request using the Liberation terms, or maybe just explain clearly what your end goal is? Or even make a quick video showing what you’re trying to achieve - that would really help me understand it properly.

Thanks again for the enthusiasm and kind words!

When there is no clips running and you select the first clip in the clipdeck and then another one you have 2 clips running unless they are in the same group. I wish you can set the clipdeck in 1 clip per clipdeck only or have a checkbox in the clip that stops the previous one regardless wich group the previous clip is in.

Ah I see now, thanks for clarifying. As I understand it you would like a way to set the mutual exclusive mode so that it works across groups. I’ll have a think about how to do this.

Thanks!

Seb

Thanks Seb. The workflow in controlling lights with dmx has been perfected over the years and i bellieve we don,t have to reinvent the wheel. Different types of lights are put into groups and you can then pre-assign effects in each group and you only have to activate the group every 4 beats for example. I really hopy you can do ad it in the next build. Keep up the good work!

If I were to use already-in-use terminology, I’d say the request is for (group) ‘Solo” & “Flash Solo” (k…I think flash solo would be awesome).

I love the convenience of a one-button/click feature, but sometime reworking the idea a little yields near identical output (and possibly better). Seeing as a you are a lighting guy, consider setting up an old school lighting busk layout where each group has its own separate intensity-only fader. This way you can say manually fade look #1 at the end of bar 3…leave 1.5 seconds of space and then slam something from group 2 in via fader. The second group clip can be running already before you raise the fader. Here is the thread where it was discussed. Manually fade between clips? - #4 by seb
