On the new beta version is it possible to lock the tempo multiplier so it stays on when tapping or resetting the tempo? Like it does in version 6.
Hi @Sean,
Interesting, I’m not sure how exactly that would work. If you tap in a new tempo but it’s currently being multiplied, the beat would be out of sync with what you’re tapping, which would be confusing right? I might be misunderstanding though, so what’s the use case?
I’m also a bit cautious about changing the tempo system as it’s really complicated haha
thanks for the suggestion,
Seb
I would understand if you need this for just half tempo or double tempo, not everything in between….
hmm, Well on version 6 the tempo multiplier stays on and you can still use the crossfader to multiply ,half time or stop the speed. (which is a wonderful function btw) When you tap in a new tempo or press reset (to make it hit on the one count) on the newer versions you need to re-engage the tempo multiplier every time to be able to use the crossfader. Having to re-click it every time just messes up the flow. I tend to use still use version 6 because of this. on that version its called “tempo multiplier active”.
Hey @Sean,
Ahh, that makes sense now, thanks for explaining the workflow in v6.
You’re not wrong – the old “tempo multiplier active” behaviour did allow that kind of hands-on flow with the crossfader, and I can see why having to re-enable it after tapping or resetting the tempo is frustrating in practice.
Under the hood though, the timing system in v6 was… pretty wild
I had to completely rewrite it to support proper tempo changes, resets and timecode, and while it’s much more robust now, it does mean some of those old behaviours didn’t survive the rewrite. The tempo multiplier in particular was always a bit of a hack, and it probably needs a proper rethink rather than just bolting the old behaviour back on.
That said, your use case is totally valid, and I agree that anything that disrupts your flow during a show is a problem. I’ll keep this in mind when I revisit the tempo tools and see if there’s a way to get back to that “set it once and perform” feeling without making the system confusing or fragile again.
Thanks for taking the time to explain it properly - that really helps.
