I just license the Liberation program and I was trying to pair it with Capture, but is getting impossible for me. I have Liberation on the Desktop pc, and Capture on the laptop. I have one rj45 cable connected between both of them. I use Avolites with this config and can use it along Capture normally, sending art net data, but dont know why can not see the media or the Capture sync in Liberation. Tried also changing artnet ip few times, nothing. Does someone know how to fix this?
This probably isn’t a Liberation issue - it’s likely a networking setup problem.
[EDIT]
I just noticed you’re using version 0.9.6 but Capture support was only introduced in 1.0.3 - try the latest version - it might just work without network adjustment. But if not, read on…
Right now you’ve just got a single RJ45 cable between two computers, which can work, but only if both machines are manually configured with compatible IP addresses. Your Avolites setup works because that’s already been configured correctly - Liberation won’t “inherit” that automatically.
With your current setup, both machines need:
Static IPs on the same subnet (e.g. 192.168.0.10 and 192.168.0.20)
Matching subnet mask (usually 255.255.255.0)
No conflicting network adapters active
If that’s not set exactly right, they simply won’t see each other.
The easiest solution by far is:
Plug both computers into a router or switch
Let them use DHCP (automatic IP addresses)
That removes all the guesswork and things should just appear.
Alternative options:
Run Capture and Liberation on the same machine (good for testing)
Stick with direct cable, but you’ll need to manually configure networking properly (I can’t really support debugging that remotely)
Also:
Turn WiFi off on both machines (Windows can route traffic the wrong way otherwise)
Once the network is correct, Capture should just pick up Liberation content.
Just to clarify terminology first - I tend to call it unlicensed mode or “free”, as “demo” suggests the app is heavily restricted (for example, people often assume you can’t load or save, which isn’t the case).
Now, on to your question! From the manual:
Licence limits and armed lasers
Capture connections are treated exactly the same as physical laser outputs.
That means:
You can only arm as many lasers as your licence tier allows
Only armed lasers will actively send data to Capture
So in unlicensed mode, you won’t be able to visualise lasers in Capture, because you can’t arm any outputs.
Also just a quick note - the manual and forum cover quite a lot of this already, so it’s always worth checking there first as it’ll usually be faster than waiting for a reply.
