Helios Pro

Were there any beta testers in the group for Helios Pro? Liberation 10% off discount code shows as working!!! Just wondering if being an early adopter for Liberation use is a good idea or best to stand down?

I’m need a few additional DAC’s in the next couple of weeks and Ive been looking at the Helios Pro and trying to decide if the regular or pro version is the safer option for right now. Currently, the pro doesn’t support connectivity to Liberation via ethernet and I can’t see anywhere where it mentions whether the max scan rate listed applies to both USB and ethernet connections or only ethernet.

Hopefully someone here has some additional info?

Wait what; so is the Helios Pro Working with Liberation or not? I really need a answer asap, if not I need to quickly order the USB one

Not currently

Pro model does support usb so it’s fine and future proof in a way.

Hi Theo, thanks for your patience here. I totally get why this is confusing that Helios Pro isn’t supported when the original Helios is.

As @mrfloppy88 said, IDN (the open network protocol used by Helios Pro) is not yet supported in Liberation, which is why the answers in this thread are a bit mixed. I also don’t think that the new Helios Pro supports USB in the same way as the original Helios, but I am checking this directly with Gitle (the Helios developer) to confirm. He was kind enough to send me a couple of units to test, and there does not appear to be a standard USB connection exposed, although I will update once I have a definite answer.

IDN support is something I am actively working on. I have been re-writing the low-level controller communication layer for all DACs, with the aim of making it open source under a permissive licence so it can be reused and improved by others. I have had some early success with IDN testing and I am hoping to open this up for wider testing early next year. That said, I cannot promise a firm timeline yet, and it will still need time in real-world use before it is solid enough for professional shows.

If you need reliable network output right now, Ether Dream is currently the safest choice with Liberation.

If you are happy running USB for the time being, the original Helios works well today.

Sorry for the uncertainty, and thanks again for your patience. If it helps to talk through your specific setup before ordering, I am very happy to do that.

Seb

I do have 3x original Helios USB DAC’s I’m happy to offload if anyone needs them quickly. Only used a half dozen times. US-based.

Would have loved to buy some, unfortunately I am from Germany :/. Still for how much would you sell one, how much is the shipping and how long would it take?

after re reading the web page i think its pretty clear about the PRO model supporting USB…

they all have USB connectivity

That’s cool but I have two of them here and they only have USB A sockets, not USB B (I assume so in the future you can connect USB devices to it?) So I’m pretty sure they don’t support USB out of the box! I’ll let you know if I hear back from Gitle.

what about the usb C? doesnt it do dual purpose as power input and data in?

Oh I never thought of that! Knowing gitle I wouldn’t be surprised if he made that work. Will try it later and get back to you.

Hi guys, the Helios creator here. I can confirm that the USB-C connector is backwards compatible with the classic Helios, so it should work with Liberation.
