I don’t know how to set up the software with my hardware, an X-laser skywriter 5w with mercury. There are so many settings on the laser, and it’s not as easy as turn it on. I have been using it via artnet and Luminair, so I know it works that way… but haven’t figured it out any other way. :).
Hey V,
X-laser are currently working on new firmware to make Mercury fully Liberation compatible, I have a meeting with them next week so I’ll see how they’re getting along with it. I wouldn’t expect it to be available for at least a few weeks but they can maybe get you on a pre-release version? I’ll ask.
If you’re desperate to get going, you’ll need to use another DAC, like the Helios or Ether Dream and plug it into the ILDA port on the back of the laser.
Hope this helps!
Seb
yessss. this makes me feel a lot less crazy that I can’t get it to work.
Unfortunately - My laser doesn’t have an ILDA port. Just ethernet. It’s to my understanding that this particular laser uses some vague term i dont know via ethernet to be used.
I’ve emailed x-laser recently, i can ask again. But, is having an ILDA port essential? Just to clarify when the mercury firmware is supported, I should be able to use my laser that way, yes?
Thank you!
Vince
Vince,
The way I understand it, once X-Laser publishes the firmware, we will be able to send direct to Merucry Boards from Liberation, so no ILDA will be needed, only ethernet.

Exactly right @StonewolfActual ! I will get more details of the upgrade process when I talk to X-Laser in the coming week.
thanks guys! this makes so much more sense to me now. ![]()
Hey there guys, if anyone is interested in testing this we have the beta firmware for direct support in Mercury available and we’d love some testers. Shoot me an email to adam at x-laser.com if interested
