What's the standard procedure for upgrading from one version to the next?

The last time I did this, I saved the timeline and a few other pages of details I could think of from the old program, into a common settings folder and then ran the new binary after extracting and opened all of those settings. It seems like I missed something about how all the lasers were setup, because I had to re-add them to the new program. Is there a procedure you use as you go from one binary to the next? (Thanks for all the new manual work, I read my way thru there and didn’t find anything about this.)

Hi @EricWatkins,

you should be able to export the project from your old installation and then Import it into your new installation.

Let me know how that works for you!

Something keeps happening when I upgrade from one version to another that causes me to have to redefine my canvas. I’m storing all my config files in a common folder, and then unzipping the new betas into their own folders and then making a desktop icon. Then, after running the new version, I’m going into file, import project, and all my clips and the timeline and laser definations are there… but I’ve had to recreate the canvas several times now.

Any ideas how I can go into an older version, that appears to be working fine, and then export it so the new version can import the project without nuking my canvases? I’m getting really good at recreating them, but it’s a pain to do right before an event, if a new beta comes out and the old one expires…

Hi @EricWatkins, oh no that sounds really annoying! Needless to say, this shouldn’t happen. I will do some testing over here to see exactly what’s going wrong there… perhaps you could send me your project file for testing?

And if you don’t want to go through that all again, I can probably get you a working config if you zip up your data folder and send me that as well.

Thanks!

Seb

I think I sorted it. I’m importing the laser settings and then … for some reason all my etherdreams are there, but out of order and I have to click and drag them back into the correct place. idk why… but that seems to have fixed it.

Thanks as always Seb, this software is the bestest!

Ah that seems not quite right either! Please send me your files and I’ll take a look
