They're here! Ether Dream UK stock

A lovely package just arrived from X-Laser with my first batch of Etherdreams.
I will need a day or so to put everything together - pictures, prices, specs etc and get it on my webshop.
This will be the first place it will be announced
Stay tuned!

Hello,
I just went to see your shop. There is no advantage to buying from you, you offer more expensive than the X-Laser shop. I don’t understand. The product coming from America costs less than the one from UK. I am from Belgium.

Hi Nicolas, i have bought etherdreams from both X-laser and Stanwax, i can assure you there is not much difference in the price once you pay shipping from the USA, UK Import duties, and VAT … which Rob has to pay, to get them to the UK, and remember Rob will provide customer support and warranties etc which is second to none from Rob … it all adds up.

I get this constantly. UK prices are so high compared to the US! That is, until you get a bill for an extra 30% or so, unless you can get away with customs fraud. Even if you’re VAT registered it’s a big pain in the arse to reclaim VAT from an import if you don’t do it all the time.

Hey folks, Adam from X-Laser here. If you’re in Europe I highly recommend buying from Rob. Rob is a good guy and it will cost you less after shipping, duties, etc.

I wish shipping these from the US wasn’t so damn expensive, but unfortunately it is and we don’t have much control over that.

Appreciate this conversation.

Where is the best place to buy these in the US?

X-laser of course!

Message me privately for a discount code

I somehow ended up with three Helios DACs… Starting to realize how badly this doesn’t scale well, even to 4 lasers, but it was turnkey at the time. (Not everyone has 64 lasers, as much as I’d love to play at that level. )

The spec sheet for the ED4 says:

-ILDA output: 2 x 16-bit (X/Y) plus 8 x 10-bit (separate R, G, B, I, U1-U4)

Does this mean I can control two lasers (or more) with one ED4? (Is there any reason why I’d want not to do this?)

Sorry for all the hardware DAC questions but this thread and where I’m at now in the laser setup makes me question if I should sell the Helios DACs and move toward ED4s, for several reasons. Greater run distance and electrical isolation being primary reasons. I think I’m experiencing a nasty AC ground loop over the USB connection between two circuits that causes the power supply on my laptop to freak out and shutdown. (It doesn’t do this as soon as I disconnect that long USB run between two rooms.)

Appreciate all the solid feedback. Thanks for your help.

Hey Eric,

No just one ILDA output from an Ether Dream - the single ILDA output is made up of many analog signals; 1 for X, 1 for Y, 3 for R, G and B plus extras, hence the confusion.

I have managed to get 4 x Helios running fairly OK on a Mac, but it seems that Windows USB drivers are finicky, in general if you have anything longer than a few metres run I would recommend switching to Ether Dream.

Lots more DAC advice in the manual!

Hope this helps,

Seb
