System Requirements

Hi, I searched but couldn’t find my answer. Are there minimum system requirements for running the software? Which settings are important? I would like to dedicate a NUC to this software but want to make sure it will work first.

Thanks

i run lib fine on a 8th gen i7 NUC but it all depens on how many lasers you are outputting too aswell

Hi @Pierre,

It’s a tricky one to answer because Liberation will technically run on even fairly modest machines. The difference is that frame updates will be slower on less powerful hardware, so the lasers won’t look quite as smooth. If you don’t have anything to compare it to, you might not even notice!

My general advice is to go for the most powerful machine you can comfortably afford. If you are open to the option of a Mac mini, I can highly recommend them - for similar money, Apple Silicon generally delivers much greater performance than the Intel NUCs. But if you really prefer to run Windows, I’m sure a well-spec’d NUC will do the job just fine.

A simple way to check how your system is doing is to look at the framerate in the icon bar

  • 100 fps - amazing
  • 60 fps - great
  • 30 fps - do-able in a pinch
  • under 20 fps - might get a bit jerky

When nothing’s outputting, Liberation purposely drops to 30 fps to save your CPU, so don’t worry if you see that. You’ll also notice two numbers there - the current framerate and the target - so you can see what the software is aiming for.

If things ever feel a little heavy, a few easy tweaks can help

  • shrink the 3D visualiser window
  • remove any unused lasers in the visualiser
  • keep an eye on clips with a ridiculous amount of content - they can slow down the app even just in the clip deck!

If your NUC can hold in the 50-60 fps range or above, you’ll have a perfectly good experience.

Let us know how you get on - always interested to hear what setups people are running!

Best,
Seb
