New Year's show in Newcastle

Here’s a quick clip from our big new year’s show. I’ll be running an exclusive patron zoom once the dust has settled to talk through this production. In the meantime, here’s a little teaser clip that shows some of the new graphics, 3D and particle capabilities coming very soon.

hope you all had a good break!

Oh my god that looks amazing! I especially love the effects from 40 seconds in where the fieworks seem to spin around as they explode as well! Wicked stuff.

Thanks @Brevans ! All done in the patch editor :star_struck:

I just watched the whole Newcastle show on YouTube. It’s just insane, beyond next level! The projection show has advanced so far, this is world leading software at this point.

Also, I wonder if laser techs are the only crew who celebrate when it rains? The beam show was fantastic when it chucked it down

I’m so excited for the next release!

Actually I would like to know as well!!!

Ok found a couple, not sure if they show it in the best light but hey.

I watched a few and they looked ridiculously good! Of course it would have looked better in person but honestly I was blown away by what I’ve found on YouTube! Your clip deck must have been huge! Did you control the moving heads from Liberation too?

I watched this one. It’s ok for a phone video. Hopefully Seb will release the full high quality one!

Rob

Clip deck wasn’t particularly big I don’t think… just used a lot of the new patch features.

I didn’t control the other lighting but I wish I had. The process of working with separate lighting techs and an avolites console was painful*… next time I’m gonna bring it all in to Liberation.

*PSA lighting desks are horrific technology

There’s a nice hybrid workflow that we use all the time - Get the LD to create the looks as cues on the desk, then just call them from a DMX value from Liberation. Cue stacks work well on Avo and MA - In fact, you can trigger cues on MA from MIDI too.

Most desks handle intelligent lighting (moving heads etc) particularly well, so taking a hybrid approach will mean you’re not holding massive fixture libraries in Liberation, but you’ll still have full control…

That would solve the issue of manually typing in each cue’s timecode one by one but that was by no means the only problem. The lighting console was so fiddly and dumb it would have been quicker to do it all in liberation. Honestly I’m kind of surprised that lighting desks seem more like Microsoft Excel than a creative tool.

It’s got me thinking… and the last time something like this got me thinking, Liberation was born haha

(I should add that we had a skilled lighting technician on the job so this is only a comment on the quality of the technology and interface rather than the personnel)

I’ve worked on various “revolutionary interfaces” for lighting consoles since the early 90s and no manufacturer has ever decided to move forward with them. LDs learn the vile interface for their desk(s) of choice, including all the shortcuts, and have no interest in changing to something radically different. Semi-automated small band level stuff has found some traction but nothing serious.

However if you took up that particular batten I’d wish you every success!

Rob

once I’m done revolutionising the laser industry maybe I’ll move on to lighting but I’m not in any rush hehe

This is exactly how lighting desks were originally designed, to be like a spreadsheet.

Designs have changed throughout the years though. But a que list remains the same - no matter what software (or industry) it is use in.

Is there an exact date when the new update will be released?

No but I’m working on it now. It’ll be mid Feb at the latest.
