Greetings everyone, here’s your news update for December!
I’ve been quietly working away adding a huge number of new features to Liberation in the run up to our big show in Newcastle for the New Year. It’s kind of an intense process because I’m both designing the show and coding new functionality along the way. Oh, and composing the soundtrack as well(!)
There are so many new graphics features, the canvas system is in great shape and works perfectly, that will definitely be in the next release. The timeline is working and reliable but there are a lot of UI refinements and extra features that I want to add. But there will be an experimental version included in the next release.
The 3D system in the patch editor is working really well. Almost all of the patch nodes have 3D options in them now. Dots, lines and shapes can all be moved and rotated in 3D space.
As you can see I’ve also added the canvas into the 3D visualiser to help you build your shows.
There is also a new trails effect, it took a lot of engineering as the patch system has to go “back in time” to see where all the elements were in the past to build up the trails. But now that capability is there, I’ve also added it to the Circular and Grid Pattern nodes, so you can create patterns where each element is delayed. It’s really powerful (and also hard to explain… I’ll show you in the New Year)
There’s also an experimental particle system that is already incredible flexible and powerful. For Newcastle I’m creating a multitude of firework effects using it.
I hate the expression but Liberation is a classic example of eating my own dog food! The issues that I find are fixed before they even get to you. And I understand what it’s like to use software on big shows, with the pressures and intensity endemic to these environments.
I’ve been putting it off but please also note that I will finally be introducing different versions of Liberation for the 3 Patreon tiers so please consider changing your plan to be appropriate to your usage level.
Thank you so much for supporting me through this beta test process, I couldn’t do it without you! Have a great Christmas season if you celebrate it, but either way I hope you have a nice break. I’m gonna get my head back down in the final push for Newcastle and I’ll tell you all about it in the New Year!
Seb
