I want to use Ableton on one Mac and Liberation on another. I successfully created a MIDI network session and both Mac’s are talking to each other.
Liberation has the network session selected as its Midi in device and it receives tempo and start/stop fine but it won’t trigger the clips using note on/off. Ableton’s MIDI To is selected to the network session on each MIDI channel but it just won’t trigger the clips!
Just to clarify, there are a few different places to set MIDI interfaces in Liberation:
MIDI Input system – used for clips that contain the MIDI Notes node. You can find this in Liberation → Settings.
MIDI Clock sync – used for syncing to an external MIDI clock. These settings are in the Tempo Panel when you select MIDI as the tempo source.
MIDI Send / Receive – a legacy system. It’s not really supported anymore now that we have timelines, but some people still use it for custom MIDI control. You can access it via View → MIDI Send Receive.
Also coming soon: MIDI Timecode sync for the timeline.
