Laser purchase advise 'knight laser'

Hi Guys,

I’m looking to get 2 5W lasers for future shows.
I currently own 2x 3W of ‘knight laser’ -lasers, a chinese brand and so far my 3W versions have been decent.
Anyone have (more) experience with these units? Any specific regards?

first thing i notice as red flag is the contrdiction within the first 5 lines, how can it be 30k and 25k at the same time?

I’m not an expert on this aspect, but the scanners in this unit specifically, are 25kpps, but they also offer 30kpps upgrades.

The 30k you are referring to (Modulation voltage) might be overdimensioned in order to work with the 30kkps version?

No clue whether those specs are related in that way…

I dont think so, usually speed of modulation is measured in Khz and 30 then would be pretty low… also i wouldnt use 25K scanners as 30K is IMHO the slowest you want, unless ofc budget wont allow…

that being said, i have no experience with this model but it looks like a prerry cheap low end unit…

No mention of any network ports on them for the e-stop (or installing etherdream). If that is not important to you, do you see yourself buying more of these in the future? Cost dictates what most of us buy and assuming this projector falls in the sub $€£1000 category, I’d say there are better options with more current features for around the same price. Once you start mixing different brands and specs, colors may not be exact when trying to match, etc.

It has ethernet interlock, I just threw in the specs from the website, on the page itself theres more details. It is the same brand as the one I already own. Currently however looking at their 40Kkps version, which does look promising

I wish someone would do an unbiased kilo-kilo review / comparison of lasers across several manufacturers and price points. I’d be willing to spend more if I had better information about models and seeing and understand the differences and whether they are worth the extra costs. I would assume the last pic you posted is comparable to the OPT ones I purchased. For example, rather than then expect one laserprojector to impeccably draw complex graphic graphics, use the canvas zone and offload over multiple projectors tiled or layered. I would like see a 60k scanner on one projector vs two 40k drawing the same image.

Going to a LEM (laser entertainment meeting) is usually a good way to do these things with other people check if there is one near you, i have learned loads going to LEMs each year

Perhaps this is the perfect forum for some compare and contrast posts. Finding lasers that have a high enough quality and a low enough price is hard, especially for those of us (most of us?) who have serious budget constraints, and the rather niche activity we find ourselves in means there are few if any meaningful comparisons on Youtube etc.

I’ve been shopping for (second hand) lasers recently, and now have three from different manufacturers, and of different ages (2yrs old to 10yrs old). I’ll try to get some video and post some subjective thoughts when I have them set up in my workshop. I was even considering hiring a laser out of my price range (ie Pangolin Clubmax or similar) just so I can see for real what the difference is, and how significant it is for a beam show.

Food for thought….

I recently ordered two of their max-10 15 watt rgb lasers and have been impressed with the beam and scanning quality when comparing to the only lasers I own which are lasercubes. They upgraded the scanners to 40k for an additional small charge which was an excellent upgrade.

I could not justify purchasing another 7.5 watt lasercube given the weakness of the Canadian dollar and took the risk which so far has been well worth it. knight does have excellent support and reviews.

Yes they are heavier and without batteries so you’ll always be running cables which is what I do with my lasercubes as they need to be wired for networking to work effectively.

I’m new to the game, but LaserCubes seem to me largely about the excellent software. Therefore as you buy more (or decide to use Liberation) they become worse VFM. My first laser (bought about 3 months ago) cost me a bit under £150. I think it’s only 15k pps (but I’ve yet to actually verify that with a test pattern). It was good enough for the show I did although I’m considering getting an additional laser in the near future, as I like the interplay of more than one. Will be following this with interest.

Lasercubes are really interesting for their properties → built in batterypack + good wireless controls + decent software for specific scenarios. They’re strongly focussing on ‘new’ target demographics that wouldnt regularly think about getting a laser (photographers, youtubers etc); which is very cool, but in terms of software and hardware for (beam)shows/serious settings, (to me) it wouldnt be the obvious choice, as the wirelessness and battery capabilities probably wouldnt be necessary (except for an epic outside rave maybe hehe) and the price would be relatively high in todays economy, compared to chinese very decent lasers.

Would love to get my hands on a lasercube to take with me for interesting scenario’s though!
