Floating labels

Here’s my suggestion for adding labels to Liberation. May be ugly to some but I’d like something. Have not used beyond making this post but certainly when it comes to complex clips, laser and Dmx shared, there can be a lot going on. These are the apple stickies …colour is bright. There may be a better app but this works for me as they collapse nicely when not needed. Also, if paging rather than scrolling is more your thing and you want to make consistent content on the same fader column for different groupings, this is should make it really easy.

I should add that copying and pasting from a spreadsheet will bring the sizeable cells. Makes it neater to space and nicer to edit. You can make scrolling label pages too if you have different layouts.

Thinking to myself “ geez, I wish I could make this transparent?” Turns out there is a setting. Not sure how I’ll use this yet but wow. Interesting to see what this type of sorting will lead to. I made a 9 column, first one for page number and then 8 matching 20 deep. Once you size it, it’s done super tight. I wish I could make it more transparent still though. Like white /colored text only

Im going to suggest “Simple Antnotes” app from Mac store. Nearly identical to stickies, it does allow for black background and translucency, pin to float, allows paste cells with sizing boundary, allows multiple notes, note management. Only negative so far is the shape of the note. Bottom line has a slight curvature to it. If a picture of an 89 degree triangle is triggering to you, you may not like this. Paid version ($4 CAD, allows to “glue note to the application so it will be displayed when the app is active or hidden otherwise”

Runnner up is Note glide on GITHUB. Only does one note at a time seemingly and gets fiddly when transparent as the grab to move is elusive and you can’t type through the note.

This is all the time I have for this. Hope this helps someone.

Thanks for this @Eyes2theSkies ! It seems like a lot of work though - is it just so you can navigate through your clip deck more easily? If I offered the option of naming clips, would that solve most of your problems?

Let me know!

Seb

Honestly, I’m not sure how I am going to use this exactly. Coordinates were just something to put on it quickly but I’ve always wondered the benefits of them. If I could simply type eg 26,0 and go right to it that clip, that could be beneficial If I had a huge singular clip deck.

I think this idea is best for building complex clips, developing clipdecks and helping staying on task. I paid the $4 and Liberation-only notes open and close with app.

As for clip naming, if you feel it’s easy enough to implement, I don’t see this as being a bad idea. Maybe users want micro-data in the corners of their clips ( coordinates, midi notes, user color code). I’ve done labels with the text node and it does the job. If the clip preview was “fit to clip cell” I’m sure you could put this on the back burner until its a Liberation 2.0 feature update. I’d suggest to put out a survey perhaps as it may not be a priority for most.

Is a simple black and white notepad feature difficult to implement? Something that could snap in with the rest of the windows? It’d be nice to keep all my cheet sheets and notes in one spot natively. I think Antnotes will be really handy in Ableton too, if I ever get back to audio stuff.

If I was to throw out a real idea, how about if you hold shift key, clip deck will toggle coordinates. Hold Alt key it shows midi s/r note of clip?

+1 for labeling things. In Clip Editor, helpful to know what’s modifying what and why. Don’t know if the dev environment allows contextual right-click flyout items, but might be nice.

Hi Seb

Late to the party on this….however, naming clips I would find very useful. It would enable me to navigate to clips that belong to a specific song on a set list I’m working on. What would be even more useful  would be to be section the clip deck into specific pages. This would enable pages to represent songs on a set list. The band I work with live on stage, sometimes drop a song say from set one and move it to set two, without telling me, (disgraceful isnt it!!!) which means I have to quickly find the right set of clips for the song they have started, not fun. Regardless, having the clip deck organised into pages/ songs would be a great help. Anyway hope that makes some sense.

I think this may be my new playback view.

Never have I went this extreme with the scale and visualizer. These are text device clips and they scale and are very legible at this extreme. If you make them a canvas zone, no beams appear in the cell making it very legible. Also, if you activate it to unassigned canvas, the label appears in the clip visualizer making it a simple HUD. clips pertain to what column.
