Color calibration precision

Hi,

I found a big problem when I`m calibrating new laser and trying to colormatch it to other lasers i own.

When i try to do a good color balance between them i found that the one hundredth (0.01) is insufficient when I consider that the intensity of brightness per color has a level of 256 (8 bit). Then the intensity of 0.01 brightness is only 2.5 percent of the total brightness .

For the 75% to 100% brightness is not a huge difference in colors for calibration (but still persist).

The problem occurs at an intensity of 0% to 25% (up to 50%) brightness, where the minimum difference is 0.01 (2.5% actual) of a luminance in the slider setting. I consider this insufficient even for 8 bits. In low brightness it is critical to have better resolution.

For now I’m using helios dac which is 8 bit per channel/intensity according to specification (still helios pro is on the way).

Could the accuracy step be fixed and allow for greater accuracy?

Helios pro is 12 bit per channel/intensity or ether dream is 10 bit, according specification. So this make a sense.

Thanks.

Robert.

Noted, thanks @Robert_Koren.

The Colour Calibration system is actually one of the oldest parts of Liberation and dates right back to the start of my laser programming journey - it’s at least 10 years old! - so is probably due an update.

All the best
