I’d like to offer up a quick tip of adding a few more chase styles to your arsenal of trickery. For the sake of simplicity, I’ll use the default 8 for reference. It is very quick to setup especially you use the default beam size and placement.
Bounce chase - Simply add an addition 8 zones and apply them reverse order (Beam 9 - head 8….Beam 16 head 1). Use the single -file chase … voila! Bouncy goodness.
Ping Ping - From the get go, simply re-ordering your beams 1,8,2,7,3,6,4,5, and the single- file zone chase does it. I like having 1-8 as my main beam row and this as a secondary selection row.
Random - Same as ping pong except you need to decide the order. It might be worth a few minutes of playing with no other zones and see if 4,8,1,3,9,2,5,2 or 3,6,8,2,6,4,1,5 or whatever works better with what delay, etc
Halloween parties are near! Time to deliver the treats!!!
I would have gone in a tad longer, but ran out of time. It cuts abruptly but I think this should fire up creative juices for some. Need to play more myself, but I think there is some real magic just sitting there, just put in a little time.
Here is my cheat sheet. This may help give you more precise fades and put the zoning into deeper perspective.
Thanks Gabe. This is an interesting approach I had never thought of. But it seems hard to implement in practice to go between the different Bounce/Ping Pong/Random etc mid show. I guess the only way would to turn on and off the beams indivisually? @seb a added section of these chases with buttons would be a phenomenal addition.
Using the “save a copy”feature is your best friend when it comes to this. The zoning / chasing is part of a clip. You need to just commit to your chase style in advance especially when it comes to this experimental stuff. Clone the same look 4-5 times first, then add different zones /chase style to them. Alternatively, just set up all your zone clips in advance as blank clips and use them as starting points. Save them to your default clips folder if you have one. You can make a timeline with these clips only as a bank you can call up quickly. The beauty of “save as a copy”you can take any clip that’s already done. Just start editing it hit save a copy and you’ve already you know you’ve captured everything from it, non destructively. All your devices / beams are set up and it’s very fast to just carry on. Also, if you use groups, you can mass zone them as a final step.
