Two weeks left until the deadline! Im about to get started and don’t want to get disqualified. Just wondering :

Can we edit an existing well known song? Im thinking stem isolation solo points for higher audio-reactive accuracy or new tension ? What about cropping length to meet the 5 minute mark? My chosen song is 7.5 minutes. I’d just a add a fade out at 5m.

I’m pretty sure the answer is no, but is reordering beams via beam zone organizer allowed. Simply reordering, no size, additional zones or position changes.

Cheers!

These are great questions @Eyes2theSkies !

This one’s easy, no reordering please, sorry! I need to be able to play all of the shows in the same project.

Cropping for length is fine, but please only use music that is easily downloadable by anyone (ideally provide an Amazon MP3 purchase link). Or completely original music that you are happy for me to distribute

Any more questions, let me know and good luck!

Thanks!

Seb

In terms of the room, will the lasers be beaming onto any kind of screen or will building elements be the screen, so text clips can be read?

And on that note should any text be X scaled -100 so the text is the right way round on any surface beams hit?

Hey @Hagop_Heath-Matossia

If you want to project any graphics or text use the canvas target area. If it looks right in the visualiser it will look right in the room. I wouldn’t use any of the beam zones for graphics. You shouldn’t need to x-flip anything when it’s going into the canvas zone.

Bear I mind that I will likely use 2 to 4 lasers for the canvas, so try to keep the graphics somewhat simple.

Anything else I can help with just let me know!

If a submitted timeline show that plays perfectly, do tidy clips (in edit mode) and a tidy timeline matter to you during assessment (all timeline clips on one row .eg)? Im mostly thinking about avoiding adding unnecessary complications to your judging role

I just made a 1st draft and since I’m handing work over, I’ll clean it up but if it didn’t really matter, I may leave it a little loose and use my time elsewhere.

Ok thanks. I haven’t figured out how to use the canvas yet so that’s what I’ll look at tomorrow.

It’s not high on my list of criteria but if it came to a tie breaker it could make a difference. So possibly worth making sure it’s not too terrible

Good luck! It’s should be quite straightforward in this setup - just turn on the canvas zone for any clips you want to appear on the screen as graphics.

Do you think you might run a few of the runner up shows on the night as well? It would be a dream come true to see what I’m creating on this many lasers!!

And to be able to film it to show prospective clients would be a very valuable asset for me being at the entry level of laserism.

+1 for getting through a decent amount of shows, very much looking forward to seeing what people create in a proper show format.

It’s honestly really exciting to hear how enthusiastic you all are about this, and I completely understand the feeling of wanting to see your work running on a big multi-laser setup.

I’m really hoping we’ll be able to run at least some excerpts from the runner-up entries on the night as well. To be realistic and set expectations, we may only be able to show a small number, depending on timing and how the evening unfolds.

That said, I do genuinely want to showcase as much great work as possible, so we’ll see what’s achievable once we’ve seen all the entries and have a clearer picture of the overall programme.

Looking forward to seeing all the entries!

Last question - I hate assuming, but will the projectors /canvas zones be setup SBS rather than top/bottom or quadrant? Im planning for SBS and a centre seam. Just thought I’d check.

Hey @Eyes2theSkies, it’ll likely be split into 4 quarters but I can’t guarantee it. Your best option is to try to keep the graphics as optimised as possible so that it will work across a variety of set ups.

Cheers!

Thanks everyone for your submissions, the standard is extremely high - this is gonna be a tough one to judge! I’m getting the panel together tomorrow night to help me decide and the winner will be announced on Friday at the launch event. I’ll post on here the winner as soon as I recover
