Why are galvo's too slow to play oscilloscope music 😭

The new Jerobeam Fenderson just dropped and it’s a bloody masterpiece
FYI this is oscilloscope music, so the music signal is fed into an oscilloscope and produces the visuals in the video
Oscilloscopes work pretty similar to how lasers and galvo’s work, only oscilloscopes don’t have to deal with inertia

Who is using floppies in these days?

I will be using mine for decoration

Very cool! Tim Walsh of LaserSpectacles has done a more abstract version of this with galvanometer based lasers and it’s pretty cool. Obviously the tech limits him way more than a scope would, but it’s still pretty cool to experience

OsciStudio is the main tool for this kind of thing (written by one of the guys behind the above production)
It supports WickedLaser and Helios output

I made my own software oscilloscope music laser renderer a few years ago. (For a show with Steve Mould) Bit dangerous to scanners but I give you the option of running it at 50% speed haha

The fun part is that the scanners make the music if you listen to them

I could maybe package it up when I’m done with the current build.

Oh cool, I saw that OsciStudio is also made with OpenFrameworks

Please, don’t let anything distract you from getting that build out the door

Jan Kriland of ObscurMagica did it 1st.

He had some really nice dense patterns to music, even getting ā€œimagesā€ from negative space.

It was awesome.

Cool to hear about the originators!
Pretty hard to find info about them but Obscura Magica sounds like an awesome collective

Check the video, there’s quite a lot of negative space and lots of creativity in there

Here is some oscilloscope music that does get a proper laser visualzation
