Proper preparation prevents p*** poor performance…

Did a DMX only show last night. I didn’t jot down the date and was reminded Monday. Big scramble for me as the biggest challenge for me since joining Liberation is the lack of proper storage/sorting setup in my home…and back pain. It was nice to finally make a little cash. Truth for me is there are not too many laser-only gigs. I’m paying for a Liberation licence and extracting monetary value when I can just makes sense whether it’s for lasers, Dmx or both! Ultra rare for me to be out late but saw some old friends and made some new acquaintances. I’m pretty sure I’ll get an occasional hire from this place. Lastly, no amount of home playing compares to going out live- the noise, the people, creating on the spot. My programming wasn’t stellar- I did not give myself enough time to make clips the way I wanted. I pretty much just rate faded and master dimmed the show from a timeline loop. I love the braking effect when rate hits 0. When you jam it full, if you are running a chase, it creates a strobe like effect which was awesome! It was 4x mini spots and 2 larger movers.

My takeaway from last weekends gig is that I should make my gobo’s thumbnail in Inkscape. Add a parameter node to the color node ( spots are a wheel and don’t respond to this). Makes it easy to do color accurate thumbnails as you do your pallet creation.

Also, if you output your DMX (or laser) zone to an unassigned canvas zone, it basically becomes a larger clip preview window.

I relearned the “group assign” too. If you want to browse clips with a large preview, turn it on for that part, then group it off after.
