Has anyone tried using 2 laptops on the same network? I am curious so that I could run most of a show at FOH and then quickly move to the stage to run lasers/DJ without having to move the computer and pray all the etherdreams connect. Wouldn’t be using both at once.
I have not. My alt suggestion would be use an extender for HDMI and usb for your (I assume ) apc and monitor. Stick with one pc.
Another is if you have either a second controller or one controller that has wireless Bluetooth midi and use that to move around. I picked up one of these for around €100. Awesome gear. Nothing else like it at that price point.
Hey Nils,
If you can, I’d recommend keeping your FOH computer as the main one, and just remote into it from your laptop on stage when you need to.
You can do that with Apple Screen Sharing on macOS, or Windows Remote Desktop / VNC if you’re on Windows or mixing systems. That way everything keeps running on the same machine, and you don’t have to worry about reconnecting all the lasers.
I do realise that some stuff isn’t appropriate remotely, “tap tempo” etc, so If you do want to fully switch over, you should be able to open the Laser Assignment panel, and hit Disconnect All on the FOH computer, then Reconnect All on the stage one. Liberation shouldn’t fight over the Ether Dreams, but it does need more testing.
If you only hit Disconnect All once, it will remember the ether dream assignment. If you hit it twice it will clear the list.
In the future I’ll make a much easier way to swap between two computers on the same network, but that’s a bit further down the road.
Cheers!
Seb
