Liberation stuttering every 3 seconds or so

Only happens on my desktop pc, so I’m sure it’s something to do with my computer settings (I suspect audio devices?). Liberation will stutter for about half a second every 3 seconds or so. I’ve attached some logs, but let me know if there’s anything else I can add!

Appreciate any help!

To note: I have tried a clean install of liberation, as well as reinstalling audio device drivers and such

Hi Ian,

Thanks for the logs, and welcome to the forum

A few things are worth trying here, as this definitely sounds like something external periodically interrupting Liberation rather than a rendering issue itself.

Firstly, can you try deleting the Liberation working folder completely (back it up first!) and then restarting the app:

A few possible causes come to mind:

  • Windows audio drivers reinitialising periodically (sadly not uncommon)
  • Liberation repeatedly searching for or reconnecting to an audio or MIDI device
  • Attempting to reconnect to a laser controller (DAC)
  • Antivirus / security software briefly locking file access
  • Permission issues causing a config or cache file to repeatedly fail loading/saving

Are you seeing any other weird behaviour alongside this? For example:

  • settings not saving
  • audio devices appearing/disappearing
  • MIDI devices reconnecting
  • DAC disconnect messages
  • spikes in CPU usage

It’s also worth trying changing your default Windows audio interface/device temporarily, even if you’re not actively using audio in Liberation, just to rule out a driver issue.

If none of that helps, please:

  1. Turn logging ON in Liberation
  2. Reproduce the issue for 20–30 seconds
  3. Email the resulting log file to support@liberationlaser.com

Also, it may be worth trying the latest test build, as there have been some pretty major rewrites to the audio system recently which may improve this.

Hopefully we can narrow it down pretty quickly!

Seb

Tried things, no luck - sent you an email with the logs! Thank you  I’ll also get signed up for the test program
