Documentation, questions about Midi Notes, DMX and Audio input

Hi @seb ,
Is there somewhere a documentation?

  • What is “Midi Notes” for
  • How to configure DMX
  • How to configure audio input

Additionally I’m missing the audio input in clip editor.
Some preconfigured clips have it included, but it is not available in the clip editor.

Good questions! I’ve been reluctant to start working on a manual / wiki while the app is in flux, but I will be starting work on it soon.

In the meantime, feel free to ask questions here or in the zooms and I’ll demonstrate the more complex features.

  • What is “Midi Notes” for

It’s a way to make content respond to MIDI notes - it waits for input on a MIDI device and makes copies of what you pass into it whenever it gets note messages. You can set it to only respond to a particular channel and range of notes. And you can also get it to animate the content in and out, and shift the position of the content depending on which note it is.

It’s kinda hard to explain but a lot of the clips in Polaris were made using this. From the red pulses at the start to the arpeggios in the middle section

I’ll demo it at the next zoom meeting

  • How to configure DMX

Another complex topic that I have covered in previous zoom meetings, have a hunt around and let me know if you find it. But I will cover it again in the next one.

  • How to configure audio input

It’s currently not enabled, the clips that have it in are an artefact that should be removed. The system does basically work but I need to add configuration options.

Hope this helps!

Seb

Oo, it would be nice with the audio input to be able to use the left and right channels independently so we could do some “oscilloscope music” type stuff!
