DMX colour wheel support

Hello,

I am thinking of using my 6 mini moving head lights alongside my lasers and am wondering if the DMX output supports colour wheels?

EG if the lasers are purple, can I map the colour wheel channel of the DMX fixtures to the position on the colour wheel that shows the purple prism, and tell Liberation that this is purple?

Hi Hagop,

Not currently, although I am thinking about how something like that might work in the future. It would be quite tricky though, as I would need to map the laser colour to the closest match on the fixture’s colour wheel, which isn’t always straightforward.

In the meantime, there is a workaround you can use:

  • Set up the colour wheel (or gobo) DMX channel as a DMX value
  • Give it the ID “1” (or any ID you prefer)

Then in any clip, you can create a DMX node, give it the same ID and directly set that DMX value from there.

It’s a bit of an awkward system, but it does give you control for special cases like this.
