I feel like I’m struggling to take the next step beyond just understanding the basic fundamentals.
I know I’ll get better with time, but I also feel like it would be really good to attend some workshops or courses like the inclusive ones ran at the launch party. Or even just watch more competent people using the software, getting a better understanding of their workflow and pro tips etc.
I’m also dyslexic and the user manual is a real challenge to learn from, so video or in person really makes a big difference.
Is this a thing, or does anyone have any other recommendations? I have watched Seb’s tutorial videos a number of times, which were great and I’m sure there are plans for more, but I also know he has his hands full. So thought I’d ask the question, incase anyone else in the community is sharing knowledge and experience that I’m not aware of.
I am the same I am of a certain age and learning by “Fiddling” seems to be going very slowly and I would like to make quicker progress. If Seb or any other “Power User” were to arrange a couse day I for one would definitely be interested in attending. For example I have an APC40 plugged into my iMac but I can not get it to “run”. We know that the software is brilliant and has a massive breadth of effects but if we can not get it to run we are lost. I am looking to expand my system to have 8 operational channels by the early Autumn but I need to be able to work the software first.
Now got the Ableton APC 40 to run - wierd first time I had it plugged into my iMac it just sat there and did nothing but when I rebooted the iMac it came up and runs but there is so much on it it leaves me baffled for the most part. We definitely need a “Power User” to run a one day workshop for just a few users so that questions can be answered as we move through the day I would be vey happy to put my hand in my pocket to buy a good days training!
Thanks for the feedback Gary, I totally understand. I should do another zoom call for members soon - I’ve been really caught up in development the last few months. And once this current push settles down a bit I’ll properly get some more calls and video tutorials together.
Workshops in real life are a bit more difficult to organise, but I’m sure it’s something that will happen at some point.
And Stuart - thanks for sharing your experience and I’m glad the APC40 worked after a restart. If you run into anything like that again, it’s always best to post it as a support question so I can keep threads on-topic and I can help you troubleshoot it properly.
Hi Seb and all the other members who are part of this great collective. I have been “Playing” with Liberation on and off all day and I just wanted to say how amazed I am with the seemless integration of the Akai Abletron APC40 into the Liberation software. It really is a great step forward. All we need now is for Akai to release a waterproof version of the controller. On great feature of the Laserpoint Aquarius system was the fact that the performance keyboard was waterproof and on numerous occasions working in Rock n Roll that feature saved the day.
If any one is interested I am having a custon flight case manufactured by the flight case warehouse for my iMac 21.5” computer with an extra slot in the foam to fit an Akai Abletron APC 40 as well. I am waiting for the cost to come back and as soon as I have the new case I will post the cost and some photographs on the forum.
Liberation has been my primary laser software for just over 2.5 years as a full-time, professional laserist. I have a background in technical mentoring for synthesizers, music production, MIDI/OSC, various show production stuff, and a lot of IT topics. I trained a few people in the US and Netherlands on how to use Liberation when they were getting started.
I have been working on videos to cover more advanced topics. I published the first one last month. The second video I was working on is now delayed because it covers my custom MIDI controller setups which will be changing with the updated MIDI system in the next Liberation release.
Would it be useful to anyone if I made a series of short-form videos (2-15 minutes) covering topics in the manual? It could be a kind of video manual with a lot of examples and per-topic format to make it easier to search and reference. I was also considering a “Tips and Tricks” series to share some of the tribal knowledge from historical meetings and forum posts. I already started developing a course outline and have some downtime next week to focus on this.
I would also be willing to conduct a live training course or workshop since this topic has been raised to me 6 times in the past month, especially at DutchLEM. I will look into a suitable online platform since I can’t use advanced features on my YouTube channel. If this is what you are looking for, please send me a PM so I can gauge interest.
Great Kevin, thanks! I just subscribed to your channel. Personally any extra content or education would be very welcome personally and I think can only be a positive thing for the Liberation ecosystem as a whole.
