I’m finding it very difficult to buy an APC40 Mk2 here in the EU, there are some in the USA but shipping, plus Finland’s whopping 24% VAT and the import duty makes them close to 600 Euros!
There are a host of different Akai APCs now, many of them have 64 preset settings available; are there plans to add support for alternative APCs?
Martin, you can get them secondhand on dutch marketplace for 300 euro. I,m happy to purchase one and send it so the total cost would be 350 max. I use a Behringer X compact because of its motorized faders , push encoders (reset) and 64 buttons for main control and 2 launchpad mini,s. I can see that Liberation is the way to go even though its not on windows yet but to me not be able to map the midicontroller of my preferance is a No go for me at this point. I understand the choice of the APC40 because it had button,s endless encoders and faders but there are plenty of midi controllers or a combo of 2 different types or brands that would be as good or maybe even better. Bussiness wise its not smart to bet on 1 device as eventually it fades out in production. Liberation has great potential but without a decent midimapping i won,t make the jump. I can clearly see that zones, chasers , alternative zones and even the effect engine in Liberation is much easier in use. It just lacks in the control side. Even dacs like etherdream are 1/3 of an FB4 so its a no brainer to go liberation. I know that the priority is giving Liberation more features but if you want more people start using liberation the first this is that all midicontrollers can be used. That creates automatically a larger group of people willing to try it. To be honest the first time i used liberation i was blown away how easy its in usage but the more i used the APC40MKII and compared it with my Behringer that has automatic faders i learned that for me personally its what i want. I hope Seb and his team will implement a good midimapping with midifeedback so you can have motorized faders, touchfaders, encoders , and buttons i all colors so you know what is what. The software is great but without good midimapping i,m afraid that search of an APC MKII will become finding a needle in a haystack.
This is something I’m aware of and monitoring. Full customisable midi is on the road map but quite a way off as it’s gonna take a very long time to do it right, and there’s lot to do before that!
I have an APC 40 MK2 for sale in case you are interested, I live in Barcelona. If you are interested, we will talk. Greetings.
