Ableton + IAC + Liberation

So, my current rig consists of Ableton, Showsync Beam, Fiesta for Mac and some controllers including the APC40 MK2. I keep the tempo of Ableton in sync and tap out sequences and color transitions with the controllers on the fly and do a sort of live looping performance except with lights, not sound. Beam handles the DMX translations and to date I’ve been using Fiesta for Mac to control the lasers This has worked pretty well with Fiesta for Mac because I can just use the existing APC40 mapping in Fiesta and assign it to Abletons output through IAC.

I had an idea to replace the Fiesta part with Liberation. I appreciate midi mapping is down the list. However I was wondering if there was a way to trick Liberation into seeing the IAC connection as a connected “APC40”. Internally how does Liberation “find” a connected device? Polling the serial devices? Or through the IAC? Is tricking Liberation in this way a theoretical possibility?

I expect MIDI control to be in the next build so I would suggest waiting a little while, it’ll certainly be a more robust solution (although you seem to be able to deal with non-robust solutions haha).

At the moment it looks for a midi device with the text “Akai APC40” in the name, so making an IAC driver with that text in should pick it up.

If you attach the words “microservice architecture” it suddenly feel less hacky lol. Thanks. I have my most important booking next week and hope to showcase Liberation.
