Does anyone have recommendations for freelancers that need PIL for lasers in the UK? CrewCover have a restriction that you can’t use your own equipment and need to be working for a client who owns the lasers and will be supervising. I have enough problems keeping my AuDHD self current on my own taxes, let alone spinning up a limited company as well.
Hey Charles, it may be worth checking out BECTU’s offerings, although I’m not sure if they cover lasers? If that works it’s definitely the cheapest option. Otherwise it’s probably worth talking to Tysers who are a specialist event insurance company that I’ve used for years.
Hi Charles, I had issues with companies not accepting BECTU cover last year so had to go a different route. A company called Pyro Cover also offer specific laser operator insurance. https://www.pyrocover.co.uk/ Give them a call for a quote.
Sadly I had it confirmed by PyroCover (same parent company as CrewCover) that their Laser (and pyro) policy for freelancers stipulates that you can’t be using your own equipment, that it must be owned by and supervised by another laser/pyro company also with their own cover. So would not cover me as a freelancer.
Try Gaynor Moyle at Precision Broking in Bristol I have been working with them since the days when they were called Torribles. They are probably the biggest Pyro and Laser insurers in the country. We do Pyro and lasers and they have sorted us out really well and most of the companies I know (More on the pyro side it has to be said) use them, If you speak to Gaynor tell her Stuart from Pyrosupport sent you !
