Hi, I’m new in this water…I’m using Ilda to RG45 adapter from the very beginning and its work solid on long distance. Now I’m looking for possibility
to send this signal somehow wireless -Wifi.
I’d advise you not to use Wi-Fi for any laser control. Most Wi-Fi solutions work in the same range as mobile phones, so as soon as you have a few hundred people in the venue, your connection will become unreliable.
Plus, you will still probably be running your e-stop on a wired connection.
We run wireless over larger distances, but use Ubiquiti 60GHz kit to avoid any phone interference
Hi @cdilija and welcome!
I would also add that you are not actually using a network at all, you’re merely sending analog signals down a network cable. *
For longer runs I would absolutely recommend moving to a network controller like the Ether Dream, and as @Funktioncreep says, you can then use a Ubiquiti point to point system if you really need wireless capability. (But you will then have the problem that you still need a wired stop button, unless you can come up with a safe wireless version of that as well!).
hope this helps!
Seb
*(I’m seeing this a lot at the moment, and while it’s probably OK for hobbyist use, but it doesn’t include the interlock and shutter signals down the network cable, so it’s not recommended. And some lasers might not even work! See @Stanwax adaptor for a better option that uses 2 x network cables but note that this is still just analogue signals over network cable!)
Hi, thanks for your recommendations. I’m still on hobby level but demands to do this on higher are here, so yeah, I will definitely have to upgrade control with something like Ether Dream.
