Can I get some advice and direction as to how to make a text (write/reveal/burning) effect with text? I attached a clip where I was able to get the letter S to “draw”, with particles simulating a burning effect. I’m stuck on a couple parts.

[Reveal Text Clip.cpdk](https://forum.liberationlaser.com/uploads/short-url/8Ny1eOjPdk24E0pWiDzfoAQkO2T.cpdk) (42.6 KB)

1. How can I reverse the drawing, so it starts from top and moves to the bottom of the letter?

2. How can I reveal the letter after it “burns” by the initial point, and stays on the screen? I don’t want it to loop or fade after a short time.

3. I’d like to do this with an entire word. Is there a way this can be done without having to make a clip for each letter on a timeline? I’d like it to draw the first letter, then jump to the next letter, etc.

Thanks everyone!

Here’s one I made earlier, not sure if it answers all your questions but hopefully it’s a start!

Hi Seb, this helped a lot. Thank you!

Curious why you used the custom oscillator. I used sawtooth. What did custom do which made it work?

When I added it to the timeline, it works well, but then the words disappear after the clip has passed. How could I keep the words on the screen without it continuing to loop the writing effect?

Thanks so much for your help!

Great! I’ve no idea why I used a custom oscillator, probably just so I could have more control over the animation speed and linger time.

If you set the oscillator to play once rather than forever it will just play through once.

Hope this helps!

Seb

In the Oscillator, I found the repeat count was set to “Forever”. I changed it to 1, and it still gives some strange behavior. It draws it once, then repeats and erases the line. When the clip it in the timeline, it doesn’t stay visible after the clip plays. Can’t figure out what I may be doing incorrectly. I’m attaching a video and the clip as I currently have it. Thank you for the help with this. 🙂

I’m not 100% sure but I think what you’re seeing is the feature of the Trimmer node’s offset parameter. 0 - 50% draws it in, 50%-100% draws it out. So if you want to keep it visible at the end, stop it at 50%.

Is that it?
